FEAST FUNDAMENTALS
is targeted at those who consider themselves to be beginners, members keen to acquire more skills in telling, while broadening their repertoire and developing greater confidence when sharing a story.
What is the Fundamentals programme?
The Fundamentals programme starts in July and will meet once a month until June 2023.
Three of our directors, Jeeva Raghunath, Roger Jenkins and Sheila Wee, have each committed to run a 90-minute online session addressing different aspects of the process of becoming a better teller.
These three sessions will be interspersed with Story Circles – similar to our story swaps, they will give members the opportunity to tell a story and receive helpful comments on how they might make their telling more engaging and effective. There is an expectation that everyone will tell at the Circle – either to the whole group or within a break-out room. If you have a story to tell, great! If you do not, we will provide the bare bones of stories for you to practice in advance.
Once the group is set up, and we learn more about your interests – whether you are hoping to tell at home, or in a classroom or your community for example, we will try to tailor the content to suit your needs. The aim is to create a safe space where you can tell stories and be free to make mistakes and grow in the process. We hope to add at least one more workshop session run by an experienced FEAST member.
As with the other SIGs, there is a registration fee of $5 for the year. Do note there is an expectation that those who register will be active participants and attend regularly (i.e. not just the three 90-minute sessions, but also the story-circles) in order to make the Fundamentals an effective support group.
